Urbacon have completed — and the Government of Canada have taken occupancy of — the 25 St. Clair Avenue East Rehabilitation Project, a pilot for the Government of Canada’s zero carbon initiative.
Committed to reducing the Government’s carbon footprint, Public Services & Procurement Canada selected the 10-storey 25-55 St. Clair Avenue East in Toronto – formerly the Arthur Meighen Building – to participate in the program, which would see the building undergo a major interior and exterior rehabilitation by Construction Manager Urbacon.
Working closely with BGIS (Project Manager) and Dialog (Architect and Prime Consultant), Urbacon has completed the transformation of the 442,235 sq ft building, which will reduce greenhouse gas emissions by over 80% and serve as a flagship model of the Government’s intention to reduce its carbon footprint.
Steven MacKinnon, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Services and Procurement, previously stated: “This project embodies our commitment to improving how we manage energy performance of federal buildings. Through this and other initiatives across government, we are taking steps to reduce our footprint and green our buildings.”
Marco Gabrielli, Vice President of Construction at Urbacon, said: “When we started, we were committed to delivering a building that the 1500 federal employees here would be proud of. I’m sure they will be as delighted with the results as we are. I want to take this opportunity to thank Public Services and Procurement Canada, BGIS, Dialog and the wider consultant team for all of their efforts over the last few years.”
