Urbacon is delighted to be Construction Manager for the heritage-listed Birge-Carnegie Building Renovation at Victoria University in Toronto.
Located at the Victoria University campus at Queens Park, Toronto, the building – constructed in 1910 – will undergo a major revitalization to improve it’s functionality and to add study spaces and classrooms to meet the needs of the University’s students and faculty.
Many of the building’s original architectural features will be preserved, with stained-glass window refurbishment and restoration of the original wooden floors. A skylight will be added to increase natural light; mechnical and electrical systems will be upgraded to improve efficiency in line with the University’s campus-wide sustainability initiaives; and accessibility standards will be met, including the addition of an elevator serving all levels.
Federated with the University of Toronto, Victoria University is one of the oldest universities in Canada and has over 4,000 full-time and part-time students.
“We are extremely proud and hugely excited to be given the opportunity to restore this fabulous building,” said Urbacon President Raffaele Barone. “We completed the nearby Gardiner Museum and we are thrilled to be back in this neighbourhood. With our institutional and heritage experience, we will be a great value-add in delivering this project.”
