Project description

Urbacon converted the landmark ‘Olympic Torch’ building into Rogers Television City, a modern complex housing the television CityTV and OMNI TV stations. The building was re-constructed from outside in and stands as one of the most technologically advanced broadcasting studios. The completely sound attenuated building includes multiple news rooms, control rooms and 28 editing suites all equipped with innovative lighting grids, dimming panels, broadcast cabling and flooring systems designed to assist camera positioning. Redundant openings were infilled to create an additional 10,000 SF of usable floor area. One of two staircases, two redundant elevator shafts and a main building support column on the first floor were removed to increase efficiency and usability. A massive one-storey high red steel truss was installed at the second floor, providing a much more flexible shooting space on the street level, large enough for the needs of OMNI and CityTV productions.
