Recochem

Recochem require a facility which accommodated the use of chemical products and hazardous materials. A site was selected in Milton, Ontario, connected to the CN Rail so that commodities could easily be delivered into concrete holding tanks. From there, a carefully designed floor plan guided materials efficiently through the filling, blending and storage processes. The intricate mechanical and electrical system was to help protect the air from contamination, while 10-inch concrete block walls with fire shutters protected four-hour storage rooms where chemicals were held for mixing. The existing structure was transformed from a one storey industrial facility, to a three storey structure with a floor plate that nearly doubles in size. The second and third floors were executive office areas and auxiliary spaces, while the first floor housed the manufacturing, warehouse and quality test laboratory. The building is a combination of glazing and architectural pre-cast concrete for the office area and flexwall construction for the warehouse facility.
