Project description

The UHN Consolidated Pathology Lab occupies 52,000 SF on the 11th floor of Toronto General Hospital. The facility includes eight distinct areas for different pathology functions, two autopsy laboratories, support spaces and administrative areas. Urbacon was responsible for the demolition and renovation of the patient floor, converting it into the consolidated pathology laboratory. The major overhaul of the mechanical systems included the construction of fume exhaust capability, negative pressure systems, HEPA filtration and dedicated exhaust systems to infectious disease specifications. The primary requirement of the heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems was to provide the assurance of occupant health, comfort, and safety. Construction occurred within a fully functioning hospital site and provided maintenance of a ‘clean’ and sensitive environment.
