Project description

After the success of Umbra’s head office project, Urbacon was rehired along with Kohn Shnier Architects and Figure 3 to create Umbra’s largest concept store in the heart of the trendy Queen West shopping district on John Street in downtown Toronto. Umbra has built an international reputation for its prodigious output of contemporary and affordable accessories for the home. Founded 28 years ago, it is one of Canada’s most successful design studios, producing on average one new design a day. The project entailed retrofitting a 1950’s building, formerly a Thai restaurant, into a bright and airy two-level store with the third level being allocated for commercial office space. Construction included renovation to the interior and exterior of a three-storey building.
